Terms of Service
Draft — not yet in force
Who we are
iceslate is a service for finding, booking and hosting pickup hockey games. It is operated by [Operator legal name] ("iceslate", "we", "us"). These terms are an agreement between you and us about using the iceslate website and app (the "Service"). By creating an account or booking a game you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- You sign in with an email address and password, or with a Google account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account until you tell us it has been compromised.
- Give us accurate information (your name, positions, skill level and, if you choose, your phone number) and keep it current. Hosts and other players see your name and your listed positions and skill level on rosters.
- One account per person. Do not create an account for someone else or let someone else use yours.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings. See our Privacy Policy for what is removed and what we keep.
Booking a game
- A game listing shows the rink, the start time, the price (if any), the number of skater and goalie seats, and the host's cancellation policy. When you book, you take one seat in one of those pools.
- A booking is yours alone. You cannot book a seat for another person or transfer a booking.
- If a game is full you can join its waitlist. When a seat opens it goes to the next person on the waitlist. For a paid game we hold the seat for 30 minutes so you can pay; if you do not pay in that time the seat goes to the next person. For a free game the seat is booked for you immediately, and you can cancel it if you can no longer make it.
- Turn up for what you book. Hosts can see who confirmed attendance and who did not, and can remove players from their games.
Payments, cancellations and refunds
- Paid games are charged when you book (or when you claim a held waitlist seat). Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Saved cards are stored by Stripe and can be removed from Settings.
- The price shown is the price you pay. There are no fees added at checkout.
- You can cancel a booking until the game starts. Whether you are refunded, and how much, depends on the host's cancellation policy shown on the game page when you booked. A refund goes back to the card you paid with; Stripe and your bank decide how long it takes to appear.
- If the host cancels the game, or cancels the series it belongs to, you are refunded in full.
- If a host reschedules a game after you paid, we compute your refund under the original time and the new time and you receive whichever is larger.
- Disputes about a specific game are between you and the host first. Contact us through the Support page if you cannot resolve one.
Hosting a game
- To host you create an organization (your personal one exists as soon as you sign up), set up games or a repeating series, and manage the roster. Co-managers you add can do the same.
- To run paid games you connect a Stripe account. Stripe pays you out under its own terms. We do not hold your funds.
- You choose your cancellation policy when you create a game and it applies to every booking made under it. Changing the policy later does not change existing bookings.
- If you cancel a game or a series, every paid booking is refunded in full and you are responsible for any Stripe fees that are not returned to us.
- You are responsible for the game itself: the rink booking, the rules of play, safety on the ice, and complying with the rink's requirements. iceslate is a booking tool, not the organizer of your game.
- Removing a player from a paid game opens their seat and triggers a full refund to them.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- use the Service to harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone;
- book seats you do not intend to use, or use the waitlist to block others;
- scrape, copy or resell listings, rosters or player information;
- try to get around payment, cancellation or waitlist rules, or interfere with the Service or other people's use of it;
- post content you do not have the right to post, or that is unlawful.
Content you post
Game titles, descriptions, organization names and profile details are yours. You give us a licence to show them within the Service (for example on a public game page and in the link preview when someone shares it). We can remove content that breaks these terms.
Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is used for fraud or abuse, or where the law requires it. If we close your account, upcoming bookings are cancelled and refunded under the same rules as a host cancellation, unless the closure is for fraud.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
- Hockey is a contact sport. You take part in games you book at your own risk. We are not responsible for injuries, damage or losses that happen at a rink or during a game.
- We provide the Service as it is. We do our best to keep it available and accurate but we do not promise it will always be, and we are not responsible for a game being cancelled, moved or run differently from its listing — that is between you and the host.
- To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected to the Service is limited to the amount you paid through the Service in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do we change the version and effective date at the top of this page. If a change affects your rights in a material way we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing jurisdiction].
